Our team combines advanced clinical expertise with a patient-centered approach to help individuals regain mobility, reduce pain, and return to the activities they enjoy.

Our Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine department accepts all major insurance plans, including VA and Workers’ Compensation. Dr. Jarrett, 1st of all, Im glad I was referred to you. It was because the ED doctor knows you're the best. I had ACL/Meniscus surgery on my left knee. He did a beautiful job. I appreciate him and his nurses. The staff communication was excellent.

Des

This past May 2024 I had a total replacement of my Rt shoulder. My surgeon was Dr. Claude Jarrett. He & the Wilmington Health staff were the greatest! From the initial appointment setting up my surgery through pre-op, surgery, recovery, & my current post surgery follow-up I've received nothing but outstanding help. I'm one of those patients who was able to go through & recover from surgery quickly. The only issue I had was a localized dermatitis which developed early on. The medical staff treated it quickly & efficiently. I was scripted a precautionary antibiotic & given a regimen for daily dry dressing changes which quickly resolved the issue. Wilmington Health administrative & medical staff was in the middle of getting oriented to a new computer operating system while prepping me pre-operatively & through my whole surgery process. Through their learning evolution & frustration, as a patient, I was always made to feel that I was more important than the operating system they were trying to learn. I applaud them all for their upbeat professionalism in working with me while while dealing with that issue. In October of 2022 I had my Left hip replaced by Dr. Chris Jarrett. That whole evolution took place without a hitch. I've had no residual issues following that surgery & I credit the WHA administrative & medical staff for their caring efficient professionalism during that course of surgery, too. Thank-you all so much!

Dermatologists specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails, which means their expertise goes far beyond what many patients expect.

Skin conditions:

  • Acne and rosacea
  • Eczema and psoriasis
  • Rashes, allergies, and infections
  • Skin cancer and precancerous lesions
  • Warts, cysts, and benign growths

Hair concerns:

  • Hair thinning and hair loss (including alopecia)
  • Scalp conditions like dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis
  • Changes in hair texture or shedding patterns

Nail conditions:

  • Fungal infections
  • Brittle or discolored nails
  • Nail changes that may signal systemic health issues

If something doesn’t look, feel, or heal right, whether it’s a persistent rash or sudden hair loss, it’s worth getting checked

A full-body skin exam is one of the most effective tools for early detection of skin cancer, and it’s quick, simple, and non-invasive.

Here’s what to expect:

  • You’ll be asked about your medical history and any specific concerns
  • A provider will examine your skin from head to toe, including areas you may not easily see (like your scalp and back)
  • Any suspicious spots may be measured, photographed, or biopsied if needed

Most appointments take about 10–20 minutes, and they can truly be life-saving. Annual skin checks are recommended for many adults, especially those with risk factors like sun exposure or a personal/family history of skin cancer.

Knowing what to look for between visits is just as important as your annual exam. One of the most helpful tools is the ABCDE rule for identifying potential melanoma:

  • A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other
  • B – Border: Irregular, jagged, or blurred edges
  • C – Color: Multiple colors or uneven shading
  • D – Diameter: Larger than a pencil eraser (about 6mm)
  • E – Evolving: Any change in size, shape, color, or symptoms

Also keep an eye out for:

  • Sores that don’t heal
  • Spots that bleed, itch, or crust
  • New growths or rapidly changing lesions

If you notice anything unusual, don’t wait. Early evaluation is key.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to skin health. Let’s clear up a few common myths:

Myth: “I only need sunscreen on sunny days.”

Fact: UV rays are present year-round, even on cloudy days.

Myth: “Skin cancer only affects older adults.”

Fact: Skin cancer can occur at any age, and rates are rising in younger populations.

Myth: “Acne is just a teenage problem.”

Fact: Adult acne is very common, especially in women.

Myth: “If a mole isn’t raised, it’s not dangerous.”

Fact: Some of the most serious skin cancers can be flat and subtle.

Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be complicated. A few simple habits can make a big difference:

  • Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen daily (SPF 30 or higher)
  • Avoid tanning beds
  • Perform monthly skin self-checks
  • Schedule routine dermatology visits

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it often tells a story about your overall health. Paying attention to changes and seeking care early can help you stay healthier, longer.

If you’re unsure whether something is worth a visit, the answer is almost always yes. Dermatologists are here not only to treat conditions, but to help prevent them and give you peace of mind.

Our practice includes seven board-certified cardiologists and four experienced nurse practitioners who work together to deliver timely, coordinated, and highly specialized cardiovascular care.

Using the latest non-invasive technology and advanced procedures, we provide rapid and accurate diagnoses. Our team includes interventional cardiologists, Dr. Bishop and Dr. Singh, who perform advanced structural and coronary procedures, including TAVR, with the Watchman device coming soon. Our electrophysiologist, Dr. McCotter, specializes in device management and complex ablations and leads our dedicated device clinic, which monitors arrhythmias and heart failure through implanted cardiac devices for early intervention and proactive care.

We offer same-day appointments and expanded access with convenient locations in Leland and Porters Neck. Our practice also provides a full spectrum of on-site diagnostic testing and advanced imaging, including cardiac MRI and implantable heart monitors for at-risk patients, including those with cryptogenic stroke.

In addition to treating cardiovascular disease, we emphasize prevention. For patients without diagnosed heart or vascular disease, we focus on slowing plaque buildup in the arteries (atherosclerosis) through lifestyle and behavioral interventions, advanced diagnostics and procedures, and medication management.
