Leading the Way in Sports Medicine

Dr. Chad Fortun, leading sports medicine expert, brings his skills to Wilmington Health. Dr. Fortun is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who provides comprehensive orthopaedic care from non-operative orthopaedic injuries to cutting edge joint replacement and minimally invasive surgery. Having spent an additional year of training in sports medicine at the world-renowned Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Los Angeles, he is an expert in taking care of athletes of all levels and ages. He utilizes the latest in high-tech equipment and innovative technologies to specialize in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle to optimize his patients’ level of function with less pain and a faster recovery. Additionally, Dr. Fortun is the area’s only fellowship trained hip arthroscopy provider. He uses an arthroscopic approach to treat injuries to the hip that commonly include labral tearing and hip impingement. Prior to medical school Dr. Fortun honed his non-operative skills as an orthopaedic/sports medicine physical therapist. Dr. Fortun believes that this provides him with a unique understanding of the rehab needs to recover from an injury without surgery or the post operative needs of the patient that will require surgery.

What Is Sports Medicine?

Sports Medicine is a subspecialty of orthopaedics that is highly concentrated in the care, prevention, and treatment of injuries and ailments related to life activities, work or sport. It involves the treatment of all ages and activity levels; whether the patient’s ailment is from athletics, daily exercise or is job related. Sports Medicine is not only for athletes, as it also caters to individuals who are highly mobile in their daily activities or careers. The team works in tandem with athletic trainers, families, coaches, and other medical experts to provide well-rounded care for the patient. The goal, first and foremost, is to prevent injuries and when injuries ultimately occur, provide prompt and appropriate treatment returning the patient back to their pre-injury form as quickly as possible. As sports medicine providers, we strive to provide the ultimate in accessibility and seamless communication between our medical team, the patient, coaching staff, employer or family. At Wilmington Health, TRUE Care is provided by our expert, Dr. Chad Fortun who serves daily to get our community and athletes back to excelling in their daily activities and optimizing their performance.

Pelvic Reconstruction

RETURNING WOMEN TO BETTER HEALTH

Approximately 1/3 of women in the United States will be affected by a pelvic floor disorder during their lifetime. Often related to both genetics and/or the birth of a child, the muscles of the pelvic floor are weakened or stretched. These now weakened muscles may cause discomfort in the pelvis or abdomen and/or issues with urinary tract, including infections or incontinence.

Pelvic Floor Disorders are treatable with a variety of options and, depending on the issue, may include surgical options including Pelvic Floor Reconstruction. Our talented team of urogynecology specialists can provide women suffering from issues of pelvic floor with relief from discomfort and improved quality of life. Using a variety of approaches, some of which include minimally invasive or robotic surgery techniques, our surgeons can successfully return our patients to health.

"I broke my nose, and a year later finally had it fixed! I was extremely scared about having a rhinoplasty. Dr. Ljung’s professional and compassionate conduct alleviated my fears. When I showed him a pic of my nose when I was younger, in the hope of getting it back, he took care to study it and even take it into surgery with him which made me feel more at ease. Lo and behold, he made my nose look exactly like when I was young!! I am very grateful to him for everything he's done. Anyone lucky enough to have him as their surgeon will be very happy!
