Biography
Dr. Midesha Pillay-Stewart is a hospitalist at Wilmington Health with more than 20 years of medical experience and a strong interest in geriatric and family medicine. Her training includes an MD from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, followed by a family practice residency and a geriatrics fellowship at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. This background reflects her long-standing dedication to patient care and her focus on supporting individuals through various stages of health.
Board-certified in both family medicine and geriatrics, Dr. Pillay-Stewart brings a well-rounded perspective to caring for patients, especially older adults facing complex medical needs in hospital settings. She has worked across a range of healthcare environments, including hospitals, long-term care, and post-acute facilities, and has consistently aimed to contribute to thoughtful, coordinated care.
In previous leadership roles at Elderhaus Inc. PACE and AseraCare Hospice, she was involved in guiding multidisciplinary teams to support patients with significant health challenges. At Wilmington Health, she continues to work closely with colleagues to support smooth care transitions and apply evidence-informed approaches in the hospital setting. Her involvement with the Ethics Committee and the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee at NHRMC/Novant reflects her interest in contributing to policy discussions that support quality and patient-centered care.
Outside of work, Dr. Pillay-Stewart is a mother of two and values time with her family. Her husband, a high school mathematics teacher, has been a steady support during the demands of her medical career. Together, they enjoy staying connected with a wide network of family and friends across the world, which has inspired their shared love of travel and an appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives.
