Wilmington Health’s Dr. Jayme Stokes Performs Groundbreaking SADI-S Procedure

Wilmington, N.C.– Wilmington Health, a leading healthcare provider in the region, announces that Dr. Jayme Stokes, a distinguished board-certified general and bariatric surgeon, has successfully performed the first Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy (SADI-S) procedure in Southeast North Carolina. This pioneering surgical milestone marks a significant advancement in the treatment of obesity, providing patients with a safe and effective alternative for weight management.

SADI-S, a novel variant of duodenal switch surgery, has garnered attention for its innovative approach to helping obese individuals achieve sustainable weight loss. Unlike traditional procedures, SADI-S involves a single intestinal bypass, reducing surgical time and minimizing the risk of intestinal leakage. The two-step laparoscopic surgery begins with the removal of a substantial portion of the stomach, transforming it into a slender “sleeve” structure. This sleeve restricts food intake and diminishes the production of the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin, aiding in appetite suppression.

With over 14 years of surgical expertise, Dr. Stokes has distinguished himself as a leader in the field of bariatric surgery. “SADI-S represents a significant advancement in bariatric surgery, offering patients a comprehensive solution for long-term weight management,” said Dr. Stokes. “I am honored to have performed this first SADI-S procedure in Southeast North Carolina, providing patients with a safe and effective option to achieve their weight loss goals.”

Introduced in medical literature in 2007, SADI-S has revolutionized the landscape of bariatric surgery by offering patients enhanced outcomes and reduced postoperative complications. Unlike traditional procedures, SADI-S preserves a greater portion of the intestine, enabling improved nutrient absorption and minimizing the need for lifelong supplementation. Additionally, the single intestinal connection in SADI-S reduces the risk of leakage and future bowel obstruction, enhancing patient safety and long-term surgical success.

“We are incredibly proud of Dr. Stokes’ pioneering achievement in performing the first SADI-S procedure in our region,” said Jeff James, Wilmington Health Chief Executive Officer. “This groundbreaking accomplishment underscores our commitment to delivering advanced healthcare solutions and improving the lives of patients in Southeast North Carolina.”

For individuals struggling with obesity, SADI-S offers a transformative solution. It provides lasting weight loss results and improves overall health and well-being. To learn more about SADI-S and other bariatric surgery options, please visit www.wilmingtonhealth.com
