Biography
A proud North Carolina native, Dr. Hanson returns to the coastal region where her academic journey first began at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. With a strong foundation in biology and a passion for community health, she went on to earn her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine, where she also completed a Master of Biomedical Science with magna cum laude honors.
Dr. Hanson recently completed her Family Medicine residency at Prisma Health Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, graduating in July 2025. During her time in residency, she was honored with the Bruce Schell Compassionate Resident Award, recognizing her exceptional dedication to patient-centered care and empathy in clinical practice. Earlier this summer, she was selected to present her research project on implementing lifestyle medicine group visits at the South Carolina American Family Physician conference—an achievement that highlights her innovative approach to preventive and holistic care.
She is known for her clinical excellence, strong advocacy for women’s health, and her dedication to educating patients and future medical professionals. Her presentations on first-trimester bleeding and anatomical anomalies reflect her academic curiosity and commitment to evidence-based, compassionate care. Throughout medical school, she held leadership positions in the Student Government Association and Student National Medical Association, demonstrating her ability to lead and serve her peers while maintaining academic distinction. She holds active memberships in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), aligning with her broad interests in family and women’s health.
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Hanson brings a heartfelt commitment to community outreach and global service. Whether counseling women as a client advocate at the Wayne Pregnancy Center or providing medical care on a mission trip to Guatemala, she has consistently gone the extra mile to support underserved populations. Her passion for empowering patients through education and whole-person care will be a tremendous asset to the Leland community.
In her free time, Dr. Hanson enjoys cooking, interior design, event planning, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family.
