COVID-19 Testing

Safe return-to-duty following a febrile illness during this pandemic can be a very challenging process. We are working very closely with our Infectious Disease specialists to provide safe return-to-duty guidance. The following are our current recommendations for returning to duty, which may be updated as conditions change:

  1. Any employee who has been directly exposed to a person with documented COVID-19 infection should self-isolate for no more than 10 days.
  2. Any employee that may have been exposed to COVID-19, or has had a fever, cough, shortness of breath (or difficulty breathing), chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and/or new loss of taste or smell must self-isolate for at least 7 days from the onset of symptoms, and be fever-free without taking fever medications for at least 72 hours.
  3. Wilmington Health Occupational Medicine can provide return to duty evaluations for you to make sure your workplace and employees stay safe.

Employees should ensure that staff and consumers have access to hand washing or sanitizing stations throughout the workplace. Leaders should encourage staff members to regularly wash hands. All staff members should wear a mask unless working away from other people (for example, in an office with a closed-door). Staff should be encouraged to maintain at least 6 feet of distance. Utilize virtual platforms for meetings whenever possible.

Also, the 5 steps and 3 Ws are good for this part too.

Wilmington Health Occupational Medicine can provide COVID testing to employers who wish to test employees.
