Boosters or Additional Doses

Last Updated February 21, 2022

We have been and continue to closely monitor the CDC’s recommendations along with NC DHHS’s information regarding COVID-19 dosing schedules. At this time particularly with different variants arising the eligibility for booster doses of the vaccine has been expanded to essentially all individuals.

All individuals should have a primary series of vaccines (the initial doses which are closer together) followed by a booster dose (typically given months later).

Dosing schedule for most patients:

PFIZER VACCINE

AgePrimary series Booster dose

Any mRNA vaccine can be used for a booster, except for those ages 12-17 it must be Pfizer

MODERNA VACCINE

AgePrimary series Booster dose
18 and upTwo doses four weeks apart**One dose five months after 2nd dose**

**Note the Moderna vaccine primary series dose is 100 mcg, booster dose is 50 mcg
