DOT Exams

Wilmington Health is able to schedule Department of Transportation (DOT) exams with a Certified Medical Examiner.  Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations require commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers to undergo a DOT medical examination performed by a Certified Medical Examiner listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME). This requirement has been in effect since May 2014.

DOT medical certifications are issued for up to 24 months, with shorter certification periods determined by the examiner based on the driver’s medical history and regulatory guidelines.

DOT physicals are typically employer-paid or self-pay services and are not routinely billed to medical insurance. Self-pay services are due at the time of the physical.
