History Was Made at the Southern Ultra Tour
The weekend of January 29, Wilmington Health Foundation and Without Limits made history when they hosted the inaugural Southern Tour Ultra!
By the numbers:
127 50K runners
422 50-mile relay runners (56 teams ranging from 2 to 10 people per team)
52 5-mile runners
The trails were tough as runners had to endure a fallen log suspended six feet over a stream and run through marsh. The five-mile trail traveled through untouched woodlands and coastal marshes. The runners conquered the hills and valleys that makes up this coastal terrain, including primitive trails that had never been travelled by such a large group before.
Runners experienced pain, struggle, slips, and falls, but through it all they persevered and made it to the finish line.
Over 135 Wilmington Health volunteers and their families participated in making sure this well-organized event was a success.
Thank you to the Southern Tour Ultra sponsors: New Hanover Regional Medical Center (Gold), SunTrust Mortgage (Bronze), PMG Research of Wilmington (Bronze), Lasalle Systems, Corning, Henry Schein Medical, Wilmington Health, Orange Theory, Fleet Feet, Waste Management, Canteen, and Wilmington RV.
