Masking Requirement in Acute Care Settings

Due to a large increase in viral respiratory infections in the community and associated upswing in emergency department visits and hospitalizations for Covid, Flu, and RSV, we will be instituting a mandatory mask policy for all acute care settings (Urgent Care, TC, TC+) as well as high risk clinical areas, including the infusion center, pulmonary, rheumatology, and oncology clinics, effective immediately. This is being instituted on the recommendation of our infectious disease physicians and is in alignment with local practice in the same settings at Novant NHRMC. For all other clinical areas, masking is strongly recommended but not mandatory.

Our goal is to decrease the risk of transmission of these viral illnesses for our patients and staff at what is likely to be the peak in the season for respiratory viruses. Masking is likely to be in place only for a number of weeks while transmission appears high.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
