Teddy Bear Hospital Exhibit - Sponsored by The Children's Clinic of Wilmington Health - Grand Opening at The Children's Museum of Wilmington on October 16th

October 08, 2008

Wilmington, NC, October 8, 2008 - The Children's Museum of Wilmington is celebrating the grand opening their brand new exhibit – the Teddy Bear Hospital – with a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 16th from 6-8pm. Sponsored by The Children's Clinic of Wilmington Health, the new exhibit will introduce children to the doctor’s visit experience in a fun and educational setting. Complete with a waiting area, pediatric exam table and other medical equipment, the exhibit will offer young visitors the chance to pretend to be a health professional and to diagnose their teddy bear patients.

After checking their patient in, children will be able to perform a general 'Well-Bear' checkup and then proceed to the surgery or x-ray stations if needed, as well as complete lab work on their bear. The exhibit will also offer information on proper 'Bear Care' – helping to educate children on everything from preventing the common cold and injuries to the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. Human anatomy, 'gross-ology' and other pertinent health information will be in the exhibit in the form of signage, books, interactive sculptures and games and more.

"Wilmington Health is honored to be part of this collaborative effort with The Children’s Museum of Wilmington to provide our youth valuable medical education and to give them the chance to play and learn through the care of sick teddy bears in the new exhibit," said Alysa Bostick, Director of Physician Relations & Marketing for Wilmington Health.

There is currently a Teddy Bear Adoption Drive going on at the Museum and with just a $50 donation a family will receive adoption papers for a bear who lives in the exhibit and their bear will be tagged so that they may find their new family member to play with each time they visit.
